How It Works
Looking to precedents from the 1960s such as conceptual art and mail art in which artists engaged in collaborative dialogues to produce new works, the collection of artworks that comprise In–Residence is being assembled sequentially.
The inaugural collection features artworks by six artists who were invited to participate by a group of arts professionals in Toronto. New artworks will be added to the collection on an ongoing basis, with each participating artist inviting two or three artists to be included in the next iteration, and so on, continuing indefinitely.
Each participating artist is encouraged to contribute a reflection on the work or general practice of the artists they have invited to participate. This can take the form of a text, written interview, poem, drawing, photograph, or any other format they choose.
The collection will evolve over time so check back frequently for the latest additions. At the end of this saga, the entire collection along with the accompanying reflections will be compiled into a compendium–a record of sorts of these unusual times.
